I'm super serious about my job.
For reals.
What?
Yes I had a spare on my head. You never know when the first one will fail.
But for reals what are you guys doing this year to prevent the flu? I normally don't think much about it. Mainly because I am totally the person that if I think about getting sick...I'll get sick. So I'm subconsciously-consciously disinfecting, washing washing washing the hands, we got our H1N1 shots, I do the 'ol netti pot and I got my onions out.
Why for --- you may say --- do I have onions out?
Because of my Dad.
You remember him right?

It's because he told me of this story....
(I googled it....you know...so someone else can tell you the tale)
"In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.
Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)
The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu."
So here in our house......I've got onions around in each room....hidden. Will it work? Dunno. Is this a crock? Dunno. Do I have anything to lose? Nadda!
So what's you're tips and tricks to keep the flu and colds out of your home?

I clean clean clean, hand wash, etc. Haven't tried the onion thing, might give it a go!
Onions. Very interesting.
So far so good with hand washing and keeping things clean. But we haven't done a vaccination.
I'm hand-washing freak and have made my kids the same, lol! so far we have been good but I'm not oppose to new or rather old methods. I went to my naturopath yesterday and she tested me for the h1n1 and received a clean bill of health. I hope it stays away from you too.
Check out Snopes.com, i'm pretty sure its an urban myth BUT if you find your onions arent helping you can always fry em up with some mushrooms!Cute pic by the way

OH I'm certain it's a myth but I also totally believe what you think about you bring about so the onions are like...there for my brain in a way!
Well now, I think I might be in trouble with that remedy because even the smell of onions makes me violently ill. However, onions and garlic (which is from the onion family) are natural antibiotic remedies, so there may be something to it! As for the flu, almost everyone I talk to has either had it or knows someone who has, (including your brother, his wife and kids, our back yard neighbours, the girl in the office next to me, etc.), and they have all told me it was just a fairly mild case of the flu, no big deal, nothing too serious, a couple of days off work and that was it. So I am just doing my normal hand washing, getting lots of rest, stuff like that. The statistics here in N.S. are interesting - so far 3 people have died from the flu and 3 people have died from the flu shot. So at this point it looks like you have a 50/50 chance either way. Also lots of reports of adverse reactions to the flu shot, so it's hard to know what to do.
I call the Dr's every other day to see if they've got more vaccine in yet. And seriously, we pray as a family to be saved from the flu. So far it's worked like a charm.
Onions and garlic definetly are good boosts for the immune system. I also think lots of Vitamin D is good too.
OH and Cranberries have natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral goodness in them! Drink up the cranberry juice!!
does it stink? i have super human smell powers, i might not be able to handle it. my mother in law used to make this thing called fire water if you were sick, it had onions and garlic and vinegar and more. it was rank, i never deemed myself sick enough to need it, but apparently it works.
wow - onions?? good to know. I believe in those "home remedies" or whatever ya want to call it.
I got the H1N1 shot too and boy did my arm HURT!!
Nope no stink Lindsay. You keep the skins on.
