Since I was a teeny bop living at home. Christmas did something to my inner nesting soul.

After I received all my fabulous gifts. And they were all so fabulous. (Right down to the new razors or magazine I'd get in my stocking from Santa) After I got all my goodies, my Mom would let us take our stuff to our room right away. She never made us keep them under the tree. I loved that. And then I'd nest. I'd clean my room....organize it. Make it a fresh new start. I always feel so inspired this time of year to make goals. I tend to do goals all year long but there's something....as well all know...about making new goals in the new year.
My room was the CLEANEST on Christmas day because that's when I'd really dig in and make my room beautiful around my new items. I actually get like that for little things. Like if I get a new notepad. I gotta clean my desk around it. If I get new earrings I have to go clean my jewelry box. It doesn't take much for me.
And now I want to clean the CRAP out of my whole house. Like really clean the CRAP OUTTA 'ER!!
I want organize, purge, beautify, and change up my house. And even though we're not here much longer I still feel the need to do this. My biggest thing I think is purging. When I get new stuff I like to get rid of the stuff that I've found that I haven't used or am ready to pass along to a new home.
It's all about the ZEN baby! Especially now that I'm working when I come home I just want to find what I need. I want to be able to come and play with cute kid and maybe the two of us can start some fun projects. Now my house is already pretty good. But you know....things start to get a little messy inside the cupboards, toys that are broken seem to get put back with the other toys, movies tend to pile in piles by the TV, and the room where the "other" stuff goes turns into a dumping ground. Oh and the shoe closet...cute kid just a few minutes ago, decided to try on everyone's boots...I think maybe I need to go in there and clean up. I'm just wishing my closet had a door. Hard to get one of those 'round these parts!!
So of course I went for a little visual inspiration....

Strangely enough these were all craft spaces and sewing spaces. I don't really sew. I mean I have plans to and many projects in my head but I need to order some fabric which I find hard to do because I really like to see and touch fabric. So those projects may have to wait. But there's something about these spaces that made me just want to dig in.
So I thought I'd share some of my to do list with you.
1-Toys!!! Get rid of broken ones. Start a rotation bin (though I find he does this on his own). Move toys that should be in his room back to his room.
2- Kitchen. Get those cupboards tidied up.
3- Inside the "office" cupboard. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! This place is quite messy. I may photograph this project.
4- My bedroom. It needs some UMPH. Some sparkle. Some putting away of clothes and my suitcase from when I went to Winnipeg a couple weeks ago.
5- Spare room. PURGE!
6- Re-vamp budget for the new year goals.
That's just a few. I have some fun lists I want to make and put on my walls. Update my visual board with some new and inspiring photos.
Oh and finish my Christmas gifts! Yes I still have some to do!
What's your top three goals for this new year friends?
Does Christmas and New Year's cause this stir in you too???
Wow now I'm tired from all that planning. Nap time?? Oh yes and I'm bad for procrastinating even though I really want to all these things. And yes that's a new goal.
PS- Have you all heard about Fly Lady? I think I need to go get some ideas and inspiration from her this week.

I tried Fly Lady once....good for my kitchen sink, but that was about it!!
My master bedroom is in bad shape. It is definitely the most neglected room in my house, despite the fact that it deserves probably the most attention!! I've always had the dream of turning it into the "sanctuary" that it's meant to be, but I just haven't had the ideas flow or the cash flow to make it happen yet!!
I already posted some of my goals on my blog, but I really want to start running again, I want to read and STUDY the old and new testaments, and I want to continue loading my family up with veggies and healthy meals.
Wow those are some of my goals too!
Yes Fly Lady has too much on that site but she has great tips too. And the kitchen sink is definitely a good one.
Love this post! It's just the motivation I need! :) Thanks! :) And I love fly lady!
I get the itch to organize after Christmas as well.....actually, I get that itch alot, so maybe it has nothing to do with the holidays.
I'm going to post my goals on my blog this next week but I've got a couple of projects I'm looking forward to conquering, espeically becuase they will involve power tools. :)
I am always purging so that's nothing new but when I see the pile of Christmas gifts under the tree I know that once again it's necessary!! New Year's goals...hmmm...tough..I'd love to do an uber clean soon because I haven't really got at it due to not feeling so hot. I need to think of it a bit more, I love to have goals, even if they're small to keep me doing something!
I have a friend who is part of a Fly Lady group... you could start one with your up north amigos!
oh my goodness...it could have been me writing this post! i am the exact same way when i get new stuff!!! just yesterday i made my "goals for 2010" list. everything from "plant a garden" to "run a 5 km fun run in may". plus i'm super motivated to work more on my home. we'll have to keep each other motivated by sharing our accomplishments as we go! xo
Totally Cari.......totally! I'm actually working on my lists today. And hot husband and I are working on our 28 days lists. Because they say it takes 28 days to form habits. So we're going to track the new habits we want to master!
Kristi,
This blog totally describes the EXACT same transformation that I experience right after Christmas!
My deal is finding those little spots in my home that I could purge even better - the junk drawer in the kitchen, my receipt file holder.. and then STAYING on top of it! It's not hard for me though cause I have no cute kids to distract me :) And I'm never here, so things are usually fine.
Purging is a good idea! Like my mom says, if I haven't used it within the last 6 months, I don't need it and maybe someone else can use it more than me!
I think when it comes to purging sentimental things, it's about realizing that objects don't hold memories, my heart does. So I don't feel bad about getting rid of some sentimental things and just holding on to the memories. Life is about the experiences anyways, right, not so much the 'stuff'.
Anyways, I can't tell you how into organizing I am (I've come a long way since we were roomies eh?) Take some pics and post them for us to see!
This time of year totally gets me excited about a fresh start. I love new years goals, lists, plans.
Top goals for the new year?
1. make more art-weekly!
2. spend more quality time as a fam
3. open an Etsy shop!
xox Happy New Year Kristi!
I don't usually make resolutions for the new year so much as I just contemplate what I would like to improve upon and just try and try and try, lol! This contemplation can take place at any time of the year. However if I were to make resoulutions, I think working on my relationships with my kids would be the number one as my kids are older than most of my blogging buddies. I would love to rent a huge dumpster and have it set in my driveway and then proceed to purge everything that is not necessary from my home. How therapeutic would that be? Third and finally, I would like my craft area to be just like picture number two on your post. All three do-able...just needs persistence.
On my to do list this year:
1) finish the basement for next Christmas'get together.
2)clean out kids' closet- purge the previous years never play with toys and put together the toys he got.
3)sort out the pantry- something that gets done at least 2 times a year.
You mentioned your not up north to much longer!!! Are you coming back south to Winterpeg or moving closer to home and family?
wow. I love your need to clean and purge. I often get the same way. And those photos you chose to inspire you? can I have one of those rooms?? PLEASE?
Great list! Can't wait to see some before and after shots :)
